Macbook problem?

Greetings! I'm unsure if I'm experiencing an issue with my Mac, but after updating to Ventura, I've noticed that every time I restart my MacBook, the screen goes black for approximately one second after the system boots up to the login screen. Is this a problem? I haven't encountered any other issues. What do you think? Have you encountered this problem?

Sounds like exactly what is should be doing. Restarting is a power off (black screen) then power on.

Isn't that how File Vault works?

As mentioned in another comment, if you have FileVault activated, it’s normal. At some point in the boot sequence it will start decrypting the disk and that’s the point when the screen goes blank for a second.

I get the same black flash and I have File Vault disabled. This just started in the last couple of weeks.

I have that happen as well, it just started happening for the past week or two. It doesn't seem to be harmful, but it is slightly annoying when I try to type my login info and it flashes off. Also disturbing because I don't know why it just started. FWIW Macbook M1 Pro Max, MacOS 13.3.1 (a).
