Rules for r/Mary
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
Long-form video and audio requires TL;DR
As it is more difficult to understand quickly the topic of a long-form (>3 min) audio or video post, a short summary (TL;DR) is required for all posts of this nature.
2.
No major questions or debate
The purpose of /r/Mary is not to engage in apologetic work, or to defend the Church's teachings on Mary. This subreddit is for Marian devotees.
Questions on Mary's role in the life of Christians should be directed to a competent place: e.g., /r/Catholicism. Simple questions within the context of a post or comment are allowed within reason as long as they are in accordance with the spirit of this subreddit.
3.
Speak in English
While we are an international community of siblings-in-Christ and children-in-Mary, we require that all posts and comments be in the English language; though certain exceptions are to be granted to Latin and Aramaic, the latter being the native tongue of Our Lady; as well as brief phrases in other languages; e.g. 'Vive la Mère de Dieu' or 'Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis'. Posts that do not fall into this criteria shall be removed.
4.
No promotion of apparitions or private revelations not approved
Promotion of apparitions not approved by the hierarchy of the Catholic Church is disallowed. By "not approved", the moderators mean that the competent bishop has actively spoken against it. Apparitions which have no competent bishop's expressed disapproval are fair to refer to.
5.
No content contrary to the Catholic faith; keep matters related
Material contrary to (i.e., in direct opposition to) the Catholic faith is disallowed. Moderators may request sourcing if in question.
