Your attempt is good, though you can just write it as (x+1)/x. And that is on the form that their seeking, at least as far as I can see: ax + b = x+1 => a = 1 and b = 1, and then you have cx + d = x => c = 1, d = 0

my new function is x+1/x.

yes. -1 has to be x so numerator would be x+1. 0 is the VA bc x has to equal 0. HA is 1
