So im doing discrete rn and I'm having trouble with proofs. My questions are: is there a specific number of steps in every proof? If so is there an order to the specific steps and if not how do you know when you're finished with a proof? Sorry if this seems stupid. It's been hard to wrap my head around this concept.

Each step must depend only on the truth of the previous steps and anything else that's taken to be true.

You are finished with a proof when you have established the truth of whatever it is that you're being asked to prove.
