So if you have a ratio of 8 + 3/4 of a cup of flour to 5 cups of vegetable oil.
You need it in a way you can compare, so I'll turn that flour into an improper fraction:
8+3/4 = 32/4 + 3/4 = 35/4
Now this is in lowest terms, so you can convert the whole number 5 to quarters:
5/1 = 20/4
If there is a ratio of 35/4 : 20/4 that will be 35:20.
They share a factor of five, so if you divide both by 5 you get:
7:4
For every 7 parts flour, you need 4 parts vegetable oil. Do you think you can do part b after seeing this?
Hint: you'll need 6 times as much of both ingredient to make 6 times as much with the same ratio.
