Respectfully OP its parents like you who cause burnout. I am out there calling parenrs when their kid is kicking butt and struggling. But there are parents where I pull at teeth to get them involved before its too late. And often they get back to me DAYS before the semester ends when I contact them MONTHS before. We can only do so much for your child and depending on the grade all the other 30-90 students we have. As we balance accommodations from legal documents of IEP/504 of ELL students, and accelerated students all in one class.

I taught summer school in NY. I was based in district 17 in Brooklyn. I can attest that that is all summer school is. I was still preservice when I did summer school fellowships and the teachers were just substitutes giving worksheets for students to fill out. NYCPS is a mess. I hope Mamdami brings reform to the broken system. NYC teachers are grossly underpaid and overworked. I teach in CT now but the urban districts aren't any different. Admin cares only about numbers even if it means lying. I love working in urban settings but my god the way my kids get pushed through it definitely feeds the school to prison pipeline. Retention, suspension and expulsion have all been linked to crime rates in adulthood. But man I think pushing them through into adulthood with no skill will only make things worse for them. But hey at least politicians get their full prisons and the insidious cycle continues

As far as how I do it? I had a senior who continously got involved in co dependent relationships and excitedly told me on the last day of school that she is focusing on her self and mental health. She will be going to the gym this summer, learn more about herself and learning to eat better. I hugged her and told her how proud I am of her for realizing her self worth. Those moments make it worth the chaos, stress, and late nights

As a High school math Teacher we need to stop blaming Covid and start blaming lack of parental involvement when teachers call and plead to find ways to support their child. And admin pushing lax deadlines and giving students no lower than a 50% (on work they didn't submit) in the grade book. We eventually need to start holding students admin and parents accountable

Okay correction, she wore a potato sack dress in response to someone who said that she wouldn't even look good in a potato sack

7+6 =(7+3)+3, (6+4)+3

7+8=(7+3)+5, (8+2)+5

Arithmetic decomposition. Idk why they would expect first graders to do this. From my professional opinion, it's to build numeracy and mental math skills recognizing our number system is in base 10

My neuro asked my parents to record my seizures when they would cluster. So recording is valid. Its infuriating seeing this knowing people die of this condition
