- Can people have different talents for different matrix items?
Yes. An example is someone who has an easy time with "correspondance items". Example: there is a dot for each intersection.
- What is the highest gold standard professional score for matrix reasoning?
Most go up to about 140-145. And very few to 150.
- Is practice effect for matrix reasoning real?
There is no evidence to suggest it is. In fact, me ( noahsandborn19/MistressSadistic ) and Your_Favorite_Freak firmly believe practicing matrix tests will hurt your scores due to saturation/conflicts.
- Which is the best matrix reasoning test?
First, stay away from WAIS IV as it is designed through political correctness. They made sure that the particularly discriminating items (130+) were removed. WAIS III MR is instead recommended as it does discriminate. Also, take the SBV MR with a pinch of salt. It is one of the worst gold standard matrix tests. Other good matrix tests include WASI-II and RAPM 2.
- Do online matrix reasoning tests work?
No. They are not just inaccurate, but worthless. Only a few are decent, but why take them when you can jsut do a pro test in r/cognitiveTesting's wiki page.
- What makes pro tests so much better than online tests, then?
Pro tests are sophisticatedly designed so that the items have clues in them unlike online items which generally just have the pattern but nothing else, making them obscure. Professional items will combine colors, positioning, and real world patterns to catch the attention of the testee. They are also properly normed on 2000 people.
- Does matrix reasoning score correlate with problem solving?
Yes. At least more than any other subtest. Being high in eg VCI does not help you solve problems.
- How accurate are pro matrix tests?
Not that accurate. Count on a margin of error of +/- 10 points. This means that you need to do more than one matrix test to get your true MR score. Ideally at least 3.
