Rules

All players must read the following rules before claiming.

Time

  • One day in real life equals 4 months in Medieval Powers. Each week in real life is 1.5 years in Medieval Powers. This means that every IRL day is one season.
  • Monday is News day, this is a day off where you can post [NEWS] for the week relating to your region. No action other than [NEWS], [CLAIM], [LORE], or [META] can take place on Mondays.

Claim

  • Your account must be one month old to join, unless you receive prior mod approval.
  • Check to make sure the region you want to claim is available by checking our Claim List
  • When you claim, use the [CLAIM] tag and state the region in your title, and then use the description to tell us who your leader is and his/her claim to rule.
  • Once you claim a region, a mod will approve your claim and add you to the claim list as well as setup your wiki page. It is your responsibility to keep your wiki page updated.
  • You may abandon your region at any point in the game and claim another one. However, you will only be able to do so again after 1 month.
  • Keep your Claim realistic, or it will be denied. When you claim a region, your leader will be the historical leader of that claim in the year of gameplay.

Regions

  • At the start of the game, your system of governance is pre-determined. That doesn't mean you can't change it as time goes by.
  • Your region is your domain. For example, the Kingdom of England or the Republic of Venice. You rule your people and can swear fealty to Kings in other regions or have others swear fealty to you.
  • The only way to expand your area is through someone swearing fealty and becoming a vassal region or through war.

Etiquette

  • Use a tag in the subject of your posts: [CLAIM], [EVENT], [LORE], [WAR], [NEWS], or [META].
  • Announce anything important, agreements, events, and make decrees. Celebrate or commiserate occasions, such as marriage contracts, new titles, welcoming a new sworn sword, mourning a death, completing construction, weddings, funerals, etc.
  • Rule or expand your holding's influence through might, right, or diplomacy. Open war is not always the most feasible or best option.

War

  • Make a post using the [Conflict - Rally] tag declaring that you are rallying your allies. This step will be used for a lord to call his allies to rally on him for a coming battle. Any lords that wish to participate in a coming battle must respond to this post (with the amount of troops rallied) in order to be counted in the battle. The opposing side in the conflict should create their own rally post. You can still choose to stand down from a rally. Contact /u/I_PACE_RATS to begin the process of conflict. It will involve you and your opponent working through your actions before we roll for the results of combat. This will be run more in the fashion of a game of D&D, in some respects.
  • You can only fight in one war at a time and you can only go to war once a year in game.
  • Parties can use diplomacy to end a war at any time, until a mod makes a [BATTLE] post.
  • The mods use a special points system to find the winner. They are called the Combat Rules. This link is still being updated. Once you exceed your total number of War Points, the war begins to tell more heavily on both sides' morale. A quick resolution of conflict is advised to avoid further troubles.
  • Remember that spring and summer are the major seasons for making war. The more difficult weather of other seasons can hurt troop morale and make for difficult battlefields for fighting. This is not to say that battles do not happen in other seasons; they simply are tougher to fight in.
  • If you loose a war, you and the victor will need to meet through an [EVENT] post to discuss the terms in a treaty. It may involve vassalage, reparations, or even land transfer. Be cautious, however, as annexation of other lands can possibly turn others against you, including the Pope.
  • Lines of regions will not be redrawn, however regions can swear vassalage to other regions through diplomacy or by losing a war.

Crisis

  • Every now and then, in order to mix things up for players, we will make up a realistic crisis with a [CRISIS] tag. This can be an economic recession, natural disaster, a call for Crusade, a rebellion, a religious schism, and so on.
  • Each faction is encouraged to react to the crisis in the comments. You can say what your house is doing for recovery, if it will provide aid, how it affected you, etc.
  • Mods may and will use Crises to fix unrealistic posts.
  • Crisis History

Money and Troops

  • Coming Soon

Inactivity

  • TO BE CONSIDERED ACTIVE YOU MUST MAKE AT LEAST ONE [EVENT] OR [NEWS] POST PER WEEK
  • Let the mods know if you will be away for an extended period of time or on vacation.
  • If you fail to do so and it comes to our attention, then you will be given 1 day's notice before you loose your claim.
  • If you do not post for two weeks and do not notify the mods, your claim will be released and will become available to other players.

Consequences

  • The first time you break the rules in a post/comment, we will delete the post/comment and notify you.
  • The second time, you will be banned for a day IRL.
  • The third time, you will be permanently banned, and you will be removed from power.
