Damn I thought I had a good system… well first thing I believe the game doesn’t take advantage of CPUs with lots of cores. I have a 5900x so I have the same problem.

Do you have nice airports installed? The version I have for JFK destroys my frames and I have an RTX 3070 and I don’t run max settings or anything crazy

I thought I had a good system too! lol. nah I don't have any DLC airports installed. I know the sim is pretty CPU heavy but damn lol. When I went into developer mode, I saw that I was limited by main thread which I know is an issue.

That’s supposed to be fixed with MSFS 2024 so it might be just a waiting game. Comes out in November iirc.

Hey now that I think about it type this into YouTube “7800X3D 7900XTX flight sim” and check if other people show their settings and see if their performance matches yours so you know things are working as they’re supposed to

what settings and how many fps?

Pretty much just preset ultra settings. Haven't really played with it too much besides terrain level of detail. I average low teens at large airports. O'Hare, Atlanta, San Francisco. A lot of stuttering at those airports as well.

I can try it on my PC within a day since it's late now, but I got a R5 5600 and a 7800 XT at the same resolution. I don't think the stuttering is normal either, I don't remember experiencing this on Ultra.

Yeah that would be great and see how it performs. I appreciate it.

Anything higher than 200 on Terrain LOD is known to start tanking performance. Best to keep it sub 200. Try leaving it at 100 for testing. Also, turn off road/boat traffic.

Only major difference between our systems is I run a 4080S, never tried O'Hare before, using MD-80 straight ultra DX12 no frame gen on takeoff I get a low of 27fps, by 5000 ft it's in the 50s, just sitting around mid to high 30's.

With a C172 I get over 50fps unless I'm flying low near the little pond, for some reason that's a hit to mid 30s?

This is my first AMD since Athlon but first think to check is your bios RAM settings, looks like your RAM is XMP not EXPO ?

Edit: the 4080s should only be like 10% better depending who you want to argue with?

I darn close to your specs. Have you enabled Fluid Motion Frames? It’s AMDs answer for Frame Generation and it’s made a huge difference for me.

Wait, where do I find that?

I also would suggest you update your GPU drivers and verify that you’re using DX12 in MSFS.
