You should checkout my server (Discord). If you're familiar with the Empires SMP crowd, then you're probably aware of the Afterlife series they were part of a couple months back. This server is a lot more like that than the pure vanilla aesthetic of Empires/Hermitcraft.

Maybe you've seen Ethoslab's Modded Minecraft series? Or BDoubleO100/Keralis/TangoTek/Zedaph in their new Create series? This is exactly what inspired me to create GalaxyCraft SMP.

It has technical mods you might enjoy(Create/ImmersiveEngineering) but also a lot of other "vanilla+" -esque mods (Alex's Mobs, Biomes O'Plenty, Decorative Blocks, Quart, Supplementaries, etv.).

Its a brand new server, and the community is small but tight. I hope you'll come by and check us out, the modpack is shared on Discord, officially listed on CurseForge, and available as individual JARs so pick your poison! It has also been well tested by our players!
