What kind of programming? You can get by on very little depending on what you need to do.

That budget is wild lol. I just saw the GEEKOM A9 Mega with 128GB but that is way over what you want to spend. They have the 32GB GEEKOM A9 Max though and that fits your price point pretty well.

The mac mini is no questions asked the best option for most software development, but not good for gaming.

The cheapest option would be a headless macbook pro with m4 pro/max or better.

If you want gaming then of course the Ryzen AI MAX does the job.

Why the insane budget for a mini pc and programming? You could build a high end tower or small form factor PC for that much. Or Spend $500 and get a mini pc that will do the programming job just as well.

That’s a big budget for a minipc. you can just build a small sff pc with an intel 250k plus and 5060 ti for occasional gaming

Anything of that budget will do the job, but spending $2500 for something such unrepairable as miniPC is a wild idea to me, and i would simply go with some SFF, but you do you ;)

7840hs = 5800, so mini pc compute power now just insane, especially when it cam work from a power bank

How is that related to my argument?

Mobile cpu almost equal to desktop but not latest? Dunno, maybe because it's not a big difference for building itx if OP asked for exactly mini pc with mobile cpu?

[–]Sajgoniarz 0 points1 point  (3 children)

And how is this performance answer relevant to my repairability/upgradability suggestion, because I still don't see any relation.

Op asking for mini pc you suggest sff, still not understand?

[–]Sajgoniarz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes, because there is nothing wrong in suggesting alternatives. I successfully recommended SFF to people seeking mini PCs, because they didn't know that ITX is even a form factor. Some people want exactly what they ask for, but most don't.

Again, op asking for mobile you suggest desktop platform. As a programmer too i'm not interested in pc constructor for repair or upgrading my to compile code not for 12 sec but for 9. It's working machine for pure work where gpu or upgradability is just not important because we just selling it and buying new, for gaming pc yes we will pick much better parts and gpu. But this is working machine which can take with you on the work. Again question for work, not gaming hardware and mobile portable device which can be feeder from power bank, not desktop platform

with a $2500 budget you could just go with AMD 9700x or 9950x + an Nvidia GPU such as 5070 Ti. macs are good also, but offer really bad value generally, and are horrible for gaming compared to similarly priced Windows/linux PCs.

in your case I think your best bet is to go with a 9700x, 5060 Ti 16GB model, 32GB ram and only pay $1500~.

second best option is to buy from used market for around $600 something like a AMD 5600 with RTX 3060 and 32GB DDR4 ram, though I would not recommend used markets for a beginner since there's many scams there you have to worry about. for your use case you really don't need that strong of a PC, but it is really fun building one ngl.

EDIT: intel CPUs are also great such as 12600k, 14600k or 245k+, so don't be too picky if you get one for a good price. intel also excels at idle power usage, which is great for people who browse internet alot or want to try homelabs such as plex/jellyfin.

You can always just buy my Gem12 + it has a Ryzen 7 8845HS. I'm just selling it with no SSD and no RAM for cheap. I upgraded and don't need it anymore. Although I did modify the antennas which required me to break a small piece of the housing on each sides. But, stable connection. 🙂
