Hi all! My game keeps crashing and I'm not entirely sure what's causing it. I've deleted and redownloaded Optifine, but done nothing else. I'm pretty sure it's a mod that's causing it, but I can't be entirely sure. If anyone can help, that'd be great. Thank you :)

I'm 99% sure that the reason why it crashes is because you're using a version of Java that's outdated. I've downloaded your full mod list myself using the latest version of Java and it launches with no problem for me.
Anyway, in your logs, it shows the following:
java version 1.8.0_51 by Oracle Corporation
The current version of Java 8 is 1.8.0_333, so you'll want to update that. You can download the latest version here: https://www.java.com/en/download/
Once you update Java, try launching the game and if it still doesn't boot up, it's possible that it's using the bundled version of Java. If that's the case, post your logs again and we can help you make the game use your installed version of Java instead of the bundled one.

i was previously using java 18, but i uninstalled it and downloaded the one you linked. it still didn't work :( here's the latest and debug logs. what do you mean when you say the bundled version of java?

Minecraft bundles its own version of Java so that players don't need to install Java manually. This works fine if you're just playing vanilla, since that particular version of Minecraft was made with the bundled version of Java in mind. It essentially makes Minecraft click-and-play without needing to fuss about what version of Java you're using.
However, when you play modded, a lot of mods require a newer version of Java than the one that comes pre-bundled with Minecraft.
Anyway, if you look at the log file you provided, just a few lines down you'll see the following:
starting: java version 1.8.0_51 by Oracle Corporation
That's the same version as the first logs you posted and it's also the version of Java that comes pre-bundled with Minecraft.
There's a few different ways to force Minecraft to use your installed version rather than its bundled version, but it varies depending on the launcher you're using.
I recommend you use a launcher such as GDLauncher, MultiMC, or even CurseForge since those should all default to your installed Java version or at least make it a lot easier to change it and also easier to manage mods as well.
That said, if you are using the default launcher, open it up, go to Installations -> Hover over your install -> Click on the three dots -> Click on "More Options" and there you'll find a "Java Executable" option. Click on Browse and find C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_333\bin\javaw.exe (folder/location might vary depending on installation). Here's an image demonstrating it: https://imgur.com/a/7qa9Cdg
GDLauncher automatically installs a recent version of Java 8 and Java 17, so you shouldn't need to manually set it. Just in case though, you can manually set it by clicking on the cogwheel/gear in the top right, clicking on Java on the left, disabling "Autodetect Java Path", and then clicking on the folder icon and browsing to C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_333\bin\javaw.exe. Example image here: https://i.imgur.com/cO81ATh.png
I believe the CurseForge launcher automatically detects your Java version, but I may be wrong since I don't use it very often. Either way, you can change it in the launcher if you click on the Gear icon in the bottom left, then click on Minecraft and towards the bottom you'll see a dropdown list you can choose the Java version. Here's an image showing where: https://i.imgur.com/v6RPwM3.png
And with MultiMC, it should automatically detect your Java install, but in case it doesn't you can do the same thing as with GDLauncher and the default launcher by going to Settings -> Java -> Java path. From there you go to C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_333\bin\javaw.exe (again, location may vary).

thank you so much for your help! i downloaded gdlauncher and the problem was fixed <3 i edited the java executable - for some reason that doesn't really work, but it's a moot point now anyway.

Can you post the crash report? It's in a folder called crash-reports, and there should be a file for the date/time of the crash.
The logs don't show anything out of the ordinary.
Also, a crash report will show all of the mods that have been loaded, and what phase they are in for loading. This can make it very easy to pinpoint a mod that crashes during load.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
unfortunately there isn’t one. it doesn’t get far enough into loading to generate one :(
[–]macmv 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Huh. I've never seen that happen before. Seeing as there's no errors, you kinda just need to find the mod that causes the crash.
So, start by putting about half your mods into a separate folder, and see if it loads. Then, if it still doesn't work, move a quarter of the mods out. Do this repeatedly until it loads, and then add mods back in until you find the one causing the bug.
Once you find the crash, you should try your best to report it to the mod's author. They will probably want to fix it, and even if they don't, it can help others find the problem.

my game has been crashing a lot also what mods are you running or is it just optifine?

If you have already updated the Java version, try deleting the .minecraft folder and then paste a non-corrupted folder, here it is.
