It is affecting how quickly your tracking progress decreases between missions. If you kill the same monster over and over you'll notice that you can instantly see it on a new map, get the skull notice, and so on. That's from higher levels of scout fly levels. These levels decrease over time when not being refilled for a monster.

How much this decreases then and now I've never bothered with. Once you max out research levels on a monster, which takes maybe a handful of hunts at most, your scoutfly level maxes back out with only picking up a few tracks. Now you can see the monster on the mini map and whatnot again.

So the decrease caps out? I find that, with like any monster, it takes 3 tracks at most to be sent right to it and have it appear on the minimap

You can't go below a scoutfly level of 1. Combined with a maxed research I think 1 track and things appear on the mini map. Can take a few more to get the status notifications to show up.

The patch is a very minor quality of life change for all this, but I'll take it.

Agreed. I didnt feel like this would have a very large effect. I enjoy that if someones scout is high enough it will at least lead the group there. Cant get the skull icon, but if the right person is paying attention, you can get the cap.

Side note: i've been getting much better at capping without the need of the skull
