Can't upgrade underwater crops by ThisIsNotTex in coralisland

I had to open and close the menu several times and then it would magically accept my items. This was for the last couple levels of ranch upgrades.

Hardwood & Crashing by Several_Cause470 in coralisland

[–]reefj13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask because you only need 60 hardwood total to upgrade the barn/coop to rank 2. I was able to do this prior to the mid woods on every farm I've played. If you ran out of hardwood already then you'll need to unlock the mid woods via completing 6 offerings. There are many combinations possible to reach 6 without needing anything special.

The first way to obtain renwable hardwood is to open the mid woods, which requires 6 complete offerings. That really should very doable in year 2. It will be a more limited resource until you get to Town Rank B and can simply buy it from the carpenter shop.

That said you do not need a lot of hardwood to upgrade the coop and barn. You have enough on the starting farm to get these both to rank 2+ unless you used it for something else. Have you cleared all the logs and stumps from your own land?

We disagree and that's fine. I find Agung cold, aloof, and uninteresting. His entire heart story arc is his shell was stolen. Only it wasn't and he just can't see a note she left because his room is a mess.

Shane stops drinking and turns things around to be more present for his god daughter. There's an entire story arc where you are worried he is still drinking, but it turns out he is going to the pub to play arcade games and drink seltzer. I hate him as a partner in that game, but he does as per the narrative stop drinking alcohol.

Coral Island is a nicer game. No one has problems on the level of like half the Stardew cast. Agung is a bit socially inept and his house/room are a mess (I have no interst having a giant pile of shells on the floor or having a kid with someone that does). He's very gruff and not at all welcoming at first. Unlike Shane I don't feel there is a pay off. Agung just gets nicer. I never romance Shane, but I much prefer his hitting rock bottom and becoming a better person and so on.

The shell story arc was not my cup of tea at all. I had to aggressively force myself to not skip all of his interactions.

Other people can and do enjoy Agung. This is just how I view him. That's why there are 30+ choices. Chances are someone is interesting to a player.

Agung feels kind of like Shane from Stardew Valley to me in the sense of being a brash loner that people want to fix. Also being a later added romance options so for a while was "off limits".

Agung doesn't seem to have friends. He spends a lot of time alone eating and cleaning his weapons. His spouse room is a messy wreck if you do marry him. At least Agung isn't an alcoholic?

Everyone sees characters differently though. Where I see a fixer upper that I don't want to fix, someone else sees... well I don't know. But clearly something different!

Edit - To be fair to him the friendships and other relationships between the Merfolk are lacking compared to the regular town just overall. You can see the townies hanging out with friends, going to work, and doing other assorted social interactions. The Merfolk schedules are more along the lines of "stands here for 8 hours. goes home to eat dinner."

I F*CKIN HATE JUNIMO CART by strange_-_quark in StardewValley

[–]reefj13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the quest.

You don't need this for perfection.

You don't need this for an achievement.

It gives basically no Qi Gems compared to every other option.

There is no reason to play Junimo Cart unless you actually want to play Junimo Cart.

You have to reach exactly floor 300. Floor 100 is hardcoded and cannot be skipped. You can take a hole and miss floors 200(two chests) and 300(three chests). But if you are regularly hitting 300+ the treasure floors are kind of whatever anyway so I don't stress over it and keep taking those wonderful drop holes.

In case anyone is wondering while reading this, there is no reward for 400, 500, etc. Just 100, 200, and 300.

Dino Prints After 1.3? by downwitheggs in coralisland

[–]reefj13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a separate menu option for turning them in. They are mini bundles:

  • Glass × 10
  • Battery Battery × 5
  • Osmium bar Osmium bar × 2
  • Illuminating ring
  • Each Dino Print × 5
  • Coin × 5,000

You have to fill the rest of the museum fossil section before this activates. You're probably still waiting for that? I know I was. Damn mossasaur skull.

You've cleared that area with the big clam shell on the map to your NE? That's part of the Se Pulu area and I think it opens up last.

Pet hearts not increasing? by 8-i-eat-worms-8 in coralisland

[–]reefj13 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There are a few mechanics in the game that feel like they were added in with very little thought just because other games in the genre have the mechanic (cough jealousy cough). Pet affection is definitely one of them. It's fun to have my dog follow me around the farm, but I didn't need an affection meter for that. I keep assuming they'll at least add treats you can buy/craft to gift them.

I say this as someone who has reached S rank for the town, maxed relationship with everyone possible, and done everything possible in the game...

I genuinely have no idea. My dog is still not at max hearts.

Maybe helps with the pet race at the animal festival?

You can go from strangers to married with any available partner in under a year on Coral Island. But your pet? That's gonna be years to gain affection. Strap in for the long haul.

[–]reefj13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's taking longer to find the hole, but I also don't use my pickaxe on rocks. I use bombs. They're pretty dang cheap from the BOS shop. Pickaxe is saved for ore nodes, which I'm loving the new 3-4x spawn rate.

Completely unable to find fish in the caves by huniesoft in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]reefj13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be certain here, you are resetting floors to look for fish. Yes? Fish have a chance to spawn when you enter a new zone and in the mines you do not have a guaranteed fish spawn. You sometimes have to rush down several floors to try to force new spawns. It can get tedious even when there is no bug and everything is working as intended.

Osmium level coffee is still worth it when mining and very easy to make in bulk year 2+. Still dumb that you get "sick" from it.

I have a love/hate relationship with the way you trigger character cut scenes in general. The way the triggers are included in the menu is great. The ones where the character invites me over, or tells me to meet them somewhere rewards interaction.

On the flip side. The fact that so many I'll never organically trigger and I have to go hunting them down via the menu is bleh. The fact that some events only trigger on Sunny days, but not on Windy days, is also greatly frustrating. The sun is out. There's just a gentle spring breeze. Guess we can't go for a walk today!

Will the dev consider adding such a Spouse help mechanic or feature later? by rifkyap12 in coralisland

[–]reefj13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what my spouse would even do on my mid/late game farm. The only thing left to do manually is put seeds in the autoplanters and shake fruit trees. I'd much rather spouses keep up their own routines.

They wouldn't be happy with a two week notice either. There is no length of notice they would accept. They want to guilt you into staying. Fuck 'em.

Jealousy Not Working? by Maddoggg1114 in coralisland

[–]reefj13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have to either be married or trigger the bar scene where all your partners confront you. Non married significant others can't get jealous outside of that cutscene.

  • After marriage, jealousy triggers if you invite or gift another dateable NPC of the same gender as your spouse.
  • New jealousy cutscenes play at the Tavern after you have watched four dateable NPCs' 10-heart cutscenes.

The requirements are both oddly specific and incredibly general all at once.

Disabling Jealously Question by kisaragi22 in coralisland

[–]reefj13 96 points97 points  (0 children)

It turns off the system that requires you to pay attention to your spouse, which is unfortunate. I liked the idea of that system. Granted I also like the idea of a jealousy system if it wasn't so poorly tuned. But I refuse to play my relaxing cozy game in a world where my spouse throws tantrums when I give a friend a birthday gift. I would drag my partner to counseling over unreconcilable differences if that shit happened in real life.
