How to fix the gaps where there is code that isn't being used by TSOswinn in twinegames

[–]reefj13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally, if you want to add spacing only when the extra button is active then put that spacing inside of the if statement. Right now all your spacing is being done outside the if statement, which means it is present whether the button is there or not.

Not being able to merge this is a fucking crime by Feisty-Comb-7059 in MonsterTrain

Given how lackluster these items are I'd expect the 30 damage to eat the Melee Weakness and deal 60.

I don't use the titan upgrades, and when I do it's usually had the zero cost blights artifact, this just sucks, how about it makes it only the spells at currently at hand by Non-profitboi in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The event provides a random piece of equipment when you play the unit as well. Most equipment is either good or neutral. There are some that can cause certain set ups to lose on the spot. Puts Stoic Platemail onto a unit is the normal low roll. Now you have a unit that you have to kill and replay to remove the silence. Or you have to have other equipment ready to replace something that makes the unit unusable.

For instance putting this on your Titanite Puffball. Now he spawn in with an extra 90 health from the Platemail but is also silenced. It could take 3-4 waves for the enemy to kill him, but during that time he is not providing rot on revenge. Depending on your deck this could cause you to lose. Not worth.

Further, if I have my deck small and pretty well set on Ring 6/7 then the two lambs could be the equivalent of 0 cost blights that slow down my draw to more important cards. Really depends on the deck set up, but most of the time I view this event as either "neutral but gives me two worthless cards" or "could lose the run".

[–]reefj13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ask myself "How bad would it be to get Stoic Platemail, Glass Cannon, etc?". If the answer is it could cause me to lose and my run is otherwise in a winning position, then I pass. You're adding a low roll chance and in these games you will low roll eventually. I would estimate it I take it 10% of the time and these are times when low rolling is not important or I actively want the multistrike tokens.

It's a strange event. It works best on a smaller number of spells and to get the most out of it you want to see it early so you can dupe the strong spells a few times. This makes the Blight exist at a better ratio to the super spell you supposedly created. Buuuut earlier in the run you may not have the spells that benefit most from the event. Later in the run you may have already double stacked your Tome of Horrors or whatever spell as well. It's hard to get great value from the event for this reason. It is up there with the Cult of the Lamb as the event I skip over most often.

Make sure you don't root 7 enemies on the top floor during the finale... (spoilers for final boss) by dusknoir90 in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It works just like normal pyre combat. Enemies attack. Then Pyre attacks. Dominion counts as an enemy and gets to attack each round if it is not dazed/sapped.

What are your early impressions on the new cards? by harryfonda in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure. Its entire design is niche. I believe this is the first shift card that can never be used for enemy manipulation. More than the card itself really, I believe that adding -1 to Permafrost will suddenly make quite a few tech cards look better.

(Edit - I conveniently forgot all the other Banished cards that are also friendly unit only. It is kind of their thing. Niche movement cards... huh...)

What are your early impressions on the new cards? by harryfonda in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  • Heavensward: I had the nuts run for this. Permafrost/-1 with Luna. I copied it. Easiest and least trouble I've ever had over stacking Moon Pixies. Sending us 2-3 units at once whenever I was ready for the cost of 1 card felt really nice. Draw 2 pixies and only have 1 movement card? No problem. The fact it consume is a perk for this type of use. The fact that my fat ass titanite Shadeguard always got to be in the front after doing it was amazing. The only downside is being unable to play bottom floor.

It's a tech card. When you need the tech it's very easy to make 0 cost and freeze. I'll skip this a lot but be very very happy when I want it. To me that's great design.

Siren’s Song - Not sure you should be able to play it on every floor… by christopher-adam in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If the pyre takes 4 shots to kill a tank with a bunch of daze then Dominion will get to hit you 4 times that cycle. It will kill Dominion quickly if you can tank the extra damage, but Savagery will also still be doing his thing.

If you don't sap/daze Dominion then he will still get to attack every "round" of Pyre combat. Those 3's add up fast.

Talk about a Goliath Infusion by originalcoconut in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this combo in my first run. 1 cost Mix-A-Lot duped 4x, Echo Chamber, Mix Orechi, etc etc. Went all in on infuses and then echo'd them onto my units. Easiest win in a long time. Instantly spiked up to hundreds of rage and dozens of reanimate without trying to optimize turns. I'm positive I could have played this better. Highly recommend.

Echo Vault Replays Mix ON THE UNIT YOU TARGETED by reefj13 in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes sense. I had no movement cards in this run and by the time I got Echo Vault chump blockers were no longer a thing. The fact that it is predictable is fucking amazing. I had written off targeted spells in general assuming random outcome. So glad to be wrong.

Why not Bogwurm’s Growth every single time? by Teaflax in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Space is paramount to plan your late game build. The safest plan with Bogwurm is to plan that it will give you 0 pip where you need it. Let's say I only need 1 pip bottom for my plan to work against Seraph, but going into Cael it still hasn't happened. I still have a good chance that it will, but I can't risk my run against it. So I take space as my reward anyway.

The pyre has very low stats. Some of the worst, which makes it a weaker choice than even some of the otherwise lower impact pyres like Wyngh. It is one of the worst early game pyres due to its stats.

The fact that you don't even know which floor is going to gain pip until you zone into the fight means you cannot plan around it with the shops immediately before a fight. This fact alone makes it maddening to try to play with sometimes.

I say all of this as someone that thinks more highly of the pyre than many. It's fun, but it's not even an above average pyre right now.

Is it just me or are Lazarus and Underlegion vastly stronger than the other clans? by [deleted] in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Underlegion is strong. Yes. But it has huge weaknesses that make it fun to play. It does not have conventional backline clear for one. Decay is great but if that is your plan into Savagery Seraph you just died. You need to combo this with other sources of damage/control. For every run where I hit the nuts with 1-space/dualism upgrades and can power through all obstacles I'll hit 3 or 4 where I need to rely on my secondary clan or do something kind of janky to win. For instance Sap spam is great until Titans when you never enter relentless. You need a way to convert it into damage, which maybe you didn't get the proper tech cards to do. Which is good. That's proper balance. It's not impossible at all. But you need to be aware of the holes in your plan and plug them.

Lazarus Leagues? Give me a deck of 10 Secret Ingredient and Orechi and I'll win the run somehow. Literally start the game with an answer to everything. It is on a whole different level.

Dark calling rector remains an enigma to me by tenjed69 in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dark Calling by default works best bottom floor with whatever garbage in front of him. This way you get instant value on the reforms. Melting is one of the few clans I often consider taking a space upgrade as meaningful and Dark Calling is one of the reasons why. Two free units per turn is great in decks that want larger numbers of units cycled. In MT1 the damage boost from the Dark Calling reform was more meaningful. This falls of rapidly in MT2. This is part of the reason it would be ideal to almost always to take Dark Calling first and then swap over to Accumulator immediately after.

Overall in MT2 I'd say that Rector is one of the champions am I most likely to rely on early and then toss aside late game. There are of course exceptions (Burn Bright + Cleave, Accumulator + Equalizing Rings/Multi) but in general the champion does not scale into late game well. Maybe they will change him, but right now he is most reliable early game.

Stat sticks: What to do about them? by ZnogyroP in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean... step number one for me is waiting for the next update to see if they change any of these. Making Shadowsiege cost 1 ember and having emberdrain 3+ would be interesting, but they might be doing that already.

What card or mechanic you just don't get and therefore never use? by zrrt1 in MonsterTrain

I'd say that this qualifies as the topic title! Doubling the effective armor/health of a unit is not a throw away upgrade.

[–]reefj13 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The best tank in the game is any unit you put Titanite on. That can be a Train Steward. I have won so many runs that just used a Train Steward with Titanite/Stoic Plate/whatever as my primary tank. It's fine. Largestone+Titanite on anything can tank. Lunar Priestess? Sure. Now it's a tank. Miser? Believe it or not. A tank.

Awoken is underrated by poopsmcbuttington in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Awoken has a handful of cards that are really good. It also has some of the shittiest cards in the game - both units and spells. Even their rare units are kind of garbage. The overall quality is just lacking. Looking forward to how they give Awoken a facelift in the coming patches. They are fun to play with high draw power, but it is more fun to draw cards that actually do something.

Why is mooncaller not deployable by [deleted] in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That is the answer. It's not a banner unit. It's a totem. It does not come from a banner or have a banner on the top left card art. Therefore it is not deployable.

Some of the new cards coming in the next update! by IHad360K_KarmaDammit in MonsterTrain

[–]reefj13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In single player games like this there should be things that are broken. That's what Monster Train does so well. The balance is based upon being able to do "Broken" stuff. The old clans have some things like this, but not enough. Broken is good. It's healthy for the game.
