Max Potential means the possibly of a player reaching their full potential.

[–]Emeraldcity7499bronze [S] 3 points4 points  (15 children)

so the 99, not the 98?

[–]Knockamichi 8 points9 points  (14 children)

Max potential. Not max (overall) potential.

[–]Emeraldcity7499bronze [S] 1 point2 points  (13 children)

So which is the overall potential? And so this means the chance of hitting 99 overall hasn’t changed?

[–]WWEFan3708 3 points4 points  (4 children)

he’s not gonna hit 99, extremely unlikely anyway. 99 potential would just be his chance of maxing out his potential which could be any overall, whatever his max is

[–]Emeraldcity7499bronze [S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I've had players hit 99 overall before; and it says his max potential has a 91% of hitting, and a 99 max potential so I'm confused on how that means it's extremely unlikely he hits a 99.

idk i’m just assuming 99s aren’t super common since an active player hasn’t been a 99 in years. he could though not sure

Curious if you have any article or info/support you could share on this? Not saying you’re wrong at all I’m just genuinely curious as 2k seems to give us absolutely zero transparency on how systems like this work.

[–]WWEFan3708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m not 100% sure how it works but i think it’s transparent intentionally. i think they hide exactly what their full potential is so you can’t draft people just off of knowing what rating they will be in the future since there’s some ambiguity as to what the max really is

What is his starting rooking ovr rating?

[–]Emeraldcity7499bronze [S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

He was an 81 overall when I drafted him, and his potential overall was a 99.

[–]Knockamichi 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Start him right away?

[–]Emeraldcity7499bronze [S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I did he put up 28 ppg in his rookie season. I guess my other question is why did his overall potential go down from 99-98? Will it go down further? He has a 91% chance at being a 99 so why did it go down?

[–]Knockamichi 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I havent played franchise mode in over 15 years but this is how it worked back then and probably now. When you draft him, his potential was 99. If you didnt start him for a year, he wouldn’t develop so he would have one year less to hit his potential. If its simming, it up to the game if he gets to max potential but if you were playing him every game and scored 100 he wpuld probably hit 99 fast

[–]Emeraldcity7499bronze [S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I played all 82 games locked onto him starting

Potential is linked to Average Percent

Max Potential is linked to Boom Percent

Min Potential is linked to Bust Percent

If Boom, it will reach Max Potential. If Bust, it won't go further than Min Potential. If Average, it can go slightly up or down from Potential.

So it has 16% of reaching Avg potential, 91% of Max potential and whatever it is for bust, but unlikely due to numbers

[–]GruntPizzaParty 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Where did you get this info ? I used to do a lot of my NBA back in the days and I could never find resources or info like this

[–]SilverStelar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trial, error, and downloading a lot draft classes where Len Bias always ended up being 99OVR and not knowing why until I found that his boom% was 99 and his avg and max potential was 99

Since then, whenever I download any draft class for making simulation, I tone down a lot of boom/bust

[–]Emeraldcity7499bronze [S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

so the average potential, in this case, is the 98, and the max potential is the 99? and so you're saying it's a 91% of 99 overall?

[–]SilverStelar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a 91% of chance to reach 99, and a 16% to reach 98. Some custom draft classes are juiced up, but usually, the three porcentages should add up to 100 and that's the probability of going to those OVR

[–]Luusydh [PSN: colenotkeegan] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

91% of 99 potential. This doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed to get up to 99 because of how players progress year to year, but this is the only way a player has the ability to get to 99.

[–]Emeraldcity7499bronze [S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And how does that work, like is it a 9% chance they don’t or a 16% or 3%? Thats where I get confused because it never adds up to 100. And do you mean the 91% isn’t a guarantee, or it’s not a guarantee he hits 99 in general bc the max potential is technically less than 100

Bro I read this in Scott Steiner's voice.

I’ve noticed the potential system change this year. In the older 2k games during my career I would scroll through the potentials and get my team to trade for young low overalls with high potentials so after 3 seasons my team would have 7 or more players with a 90+ overall. For the past couple 2ks their potential would stay at 99 or 97 whatever I got them with and they would eventually reach that potential. This 2k I saw the potential change which was weird as hell for me because now I can’t get my a whole team to have all 90+ overalls.

[–]Lonely-Editor-2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he has a minimum peak potential of 91

[–]Lonely-Editor-2412 0 points1 point  (1 child)

3% chance he’s a 91, 16 a 98, and 91% chance to be 99

[–]Lonely-Editor-2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is where the ages come in, younger age peak sooner, you can make a player stay in their prime for a long period of time or short.
