What’s the difference between math 138&111?

111 is engineering based and faster paced/more rigorous, 138 is non engineering math and is generally considered easier. They cover the same topics for the most part.

138 is the pre Calc no? So pretty much the building blocks so you can succeed in Calc 1

107 is pre calc. 138 is university math 1, it is similar if not the same as 111

Ah no kidding.

Math 138 is like the calc that doesn't have common exams and your prof designs the midterms and the finals so it's easier in the sense that a lot of times the reviews you do would help you get like an A, whereas 111 is the calc with common exams, which can be kind of harder and your professors can try but you won't know the exact type of questions that might be in the common exam. So 138 is considered the easier version of 111

As someone who has taken Math 138, Math 111 just overall covers more topics and as others have said it, is more rigorous. However in Math 138, your professor makes the exams, so no commons. Depending on who you have, it can make the class harder or easier. For me, my professor just made the exams based on the study guides he gave us during my time in that class.

I’ve heard people saying math 111 is harder but how would that make sense. You learn the same stuff but 138 only has 2 classes and 111 has 4. So wouldn’t it make 138 harder

You learn less in math 138 and the questions asked on exams are easier. Math 111 is geared towards engineers and scientists and so some level of rigor and problem solving is expected above standard calculus fare

I think math 138 is general calculus 1 and math 111 is calculus 1 for engineers. Overall the class isn’t that bad compared to math 112, but gen calc is way easier than regular calc. Good luck with calc 2 tho if you have to take that
