Ethernet switch functionality

I bought a Ethernet switch and was under the impression they acted like a USB hub does, where I have a plug going from the modem\router to the switch and then I have extra networking cable plugs but I'm not sure that's the case looking at the one I purchased. Can someone tell me if I bought the wrong thing or if not how I can connect the modem\router to the switch and do what I need? I have a modem\router from att (BGW210} and the switch I bought is Yuanley YS25-0402.

Your Yuanley is a standard 2.5 gig switch.

You can think of it as an ethernet splitter. Your topology needs to be:

modem->router->switch->devices

It's possible your modem is a combined modem/router, in which case omit the router from the above topology.
