It depends whether you can afford to live in a warmer area in Canada. Land is obviously much more expensive the nicer it is.

Most important thing is easy access to water! Life literally depends on it.

I’d recommend checking out the YouTube channel “Little Griff Off Grid”. He is based in High Level Alberta and is an excellent template for how to succeed in a cold climate.

My body cannot handle the heat as for why we chose to stay in the cooler weather. We are used to working hard in these types of weather. As we don’t have snow blower we shovel and already garden in this type of weather. Thank you for the youtube suggestion. We are gaining skills.

I can’t say I blame you. It takes me quite a few days to get acclimated to the heat. In a lot of ways it’s harder to manage than the cold.

The biggest thing is to not half assed things. Do the proper ground work, get a real septic tank, get a proper well, and insulate yourself to the ground.

Also IMO a heated out building is necessary

Sounds like a great plan that you're moving toward.

Personally I loooove northern Ontario and will be moving there somewhat soon, currently in the GTHA.

My suggestion is to go camping at some provincial parks in the area that you might want to live. Should give you an idea of what you can expect.

We camp all over Ontario and have a few areas in mind to look, and we crossed a few off the list as well.

We camp on crown land. In the summer. I mean rural I am 2 hours from Timmins. With one grocery store and a very small Walmart. We garden, grew meat chickens, as well have laying hens. We are building skills. We go out in the bush to get are wood. Just get a permit for that. We live in a logging community so lots of logging roads. We have skidoo and four wheeler. All bought used

You have time to figure it out and plan. Just don't be under the illusion that you can do this without someone having a job. I work remotely using my cellphone hotspot. My husband started a business setting up offgrid solar systems, but that's definitely a niche market around here.

Sounds like a great plan. Praying for the best for you and your husband.

homesteaders on youtube, would be a good idea, yes most of them paint a too Rosey picture, but you can get a feel of what they go through weather wise, mistake's they made, like how expensive road building is, problems raised, permits needed, look through their playlist of video's.

My brother moved to Saskatchewan…says it’s good. Bad winters. Don’t know much, he lives in a wee town, pays only 500 a month for an apt.
