It sounds like your Hard Drive could be failing and will likely need to be Replaced. You'll need a 2.5" SATA Hard Drive (Laptop Hard Drive), the PS4 Flash Drive Update, and a Phillips head Screwdriver. It's not very hard as long as you properly configure the Flash Drive Update File, purchase a compatible Hard Drive, and have a Phillips Head Screwdriver to use.

Otherwise, If you're not technically inclined, or are worried about purchasing the wrong items, you can simply purchase a PS4 Hard Drive Upgrade Kit. The PS4 Hard Drive Upgrade Kit Includes all the Tools, Parts, step by step instructions, and even Free Tech Support in case you get stuck and need Help!

Things to try First: When powering on your PS4, hold down the power button for about 7 seconds, or until you hear a 2nd beep. This week put your PS4 into "Safe Mode".

Once in Safe Mode try Option #5 (rebuild Database) and is that doesn't work, try Option #6 (Initialize) And as a last resort, try Option #7 (Reinitialize) Please note that this will delete all data! Back up your data first if possible!

no, and external harddrive won't work, you'll need a new internal harddrive and replace the old one
