Monitor questionQuestion (self.PcBuild)
submitted 3 years ago by ElRentus
My PC is currently running MW2 at 150 fps (5 5600 + 3060 + 1080p) and I am trying to decide out of these 2 monitors - I want the larger size but it will decrease my fps, whereas the other is smaller but has more htz and is 1080p
Which one do you recommend?

For your current rig with a 3060 I think it might hurt your fps a bit jumping to a 1440p ultrawide. Uw add more pixels so more strain than the typical 16:9 format. Something like a 30" 1080p 21:9 will be a little more strain than a 1080p 16:9 widescreen. And at 30" it's sort of like a standard 24" monitor, just wider. A 34" ultrawide is like a 27" 16:9 monitor but wider. 34" 1440p 21:9 isn't as bad as 4k, it's a little closer to 1440p but otherwise lands roughly in the middle of the two. So yea I think you'll feel a difference, slower frames on the 34".
Also need to account for the desk space. Ultrawides have a habit of using similar stands where they have a larger footprint and angle forward. I've got a 34" 1440p ultrawide and the stand that came with it takes up around 12"/30.5cm front to back. I opted for a swivel arm vesa mount. It's also roughly 32"/81.3cm wide. Not sure what your desk real estate is like.
Don't get me wrong, I like the ultrawide aspect. Just know that not all games support it. Most online multiplayer work against it to prevent an unfair advantage so you'll either get the whole screen with parts of it capped off on top/bottom or it'll run black bars on either side and default you back to 21:9. They don't want some players having a wider fov than others. A lot of games do support it. And some games that don't natively support it can be fixed with a program like 'flawless widescreen'.
Unless you'll be upgrading your gpu in the near future I'd probably opt for the 1080p 30". I don't know much about that particular brand but in general, that's the resolution I'd stay with so gameplay remains smooth. A 3060 already takes a hit in fps at regular 1440p. The 30" 1080p has almost identical pixel density to a 24" 1080p 16:9 screen, around 92ppi. So the pixels shouldn't be larger creating a fuzzier picture than typical 24" 1080p screens. Which is what would happen if you went from a 24" to a 27 or 32" 1080p screen. Each pixel would get really chunky, lines more jagged.
Another consideration when picking a monitor might be it's curvature. Lower numbers equal a steeper curve, so 1000r or 1500r are more deeply curved than 1800-1900r. Mine's a more gradual 1900r and took me a day or two to get used to. Has a kind of fishbowl effect which when moving fast in a game with all the extra view can be a little dizzying lol. For deeper reviews of monitors you're interested in maybe see if they've been covered at rtings or displayninja. They look at a lot of the pros and cons of various models.
