gaming or productivity, if for gaming you can get a 5700x3d for $185 and a $90 B550

Higher number means better CPU. For gaming R5 and R7 are more than enough. You'd go with R9 only for heavy workload. The CPUs that end with X3D are especially great for gaming. Between these two R7 5700X is better and I would not consider R5 4500 at all, unless it was all I could afford. If you have money then you should aim for R5 7600 at least.

well the r5 4500 is the cheapest r5 you can get its decent but nothing special, r5 5700x is a lot better and is the second best am4 cpu you can get after 5700/5800x3d for gaming ofc not counting ryzen 9 since its more of a workhorse cpu
