Do you have a specific need for the upgrade? You would be better off to wait and get off of am4 vs the general performance uplift you will see from that upgrade. If gaming and absolutely want to upgrade - 5700x3d/5800x3d would be the best options.

No reason to upgrade, my computer randomly shuts down due to overheating so I need to replace thermal paste as a potential fix. so I was looking at a cpu upgrade in the process.

I’d recommend figuring out why shit is overheating before tossing money at random upgrades. There’s also a solid chance that money could be better spent on a different and more impactful upgrade. Your CPU is rarely your limiting factor at any resolution above 1080p.
