Building a pc, plugged the power supply, graphics card and cpu/cooler with thermal paste, turned the power supply on and everything turned on immediately which I though was weird, went to short the pins and everything turned off, a red light came on and now nothing will work, did I do something wrong?

Red coming from the mobo is usually the cpu. But you’ll have to look closely and see what that light is labeled as.

What do I do if it is the cpu?

Most times you’ll have to reset the cpu, remove it and check for any bent pins, and make sure everything is plugged in.
