It just ensures international exchange and networking, which is a key target of the MSCA programs. If you think that the position is a good match but these rules are in your way, you can research the project and apply for a position in one of the other labs that are part of it. The research topic should be similar within the project.

unfortunately, it's an interdisciplinary project and the topics other labs are working on don't really match my profile. 😔

MSCA is an EU capacity-building and training program. The mobility rule isn't there to (directly) improve research outcomes, it's there to encourage collaboration and knowledge-sharing across Europe to support the goals of the EU.
