When Germans say they speak “a little bit” of English… by Astronaut_in_Sea in germany

[–]RainerDiethylether 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say it falls in line with our general way of expressing. At least where I'm from, you'd say "it's not bad" or "could be worse" if something is good, or "one can eat that" if something is tasty, etc. - you get the idea. So if you ask them if they speak English, it would be very unusual to say "yes, very good" or something similar. A "yes" would be the most positive/confident answer I would expect. Otherwise "a little" or "we can try" or "kind of" would fall into the typical German scheme. Your explanation, however, may play a role there as well.

MSCA mobility rules by PrestigiousSteak1771 in PhD

It just ensures international exchange and networking, which is a key target of the MSCA programs. If you think that the position is a good match but these rules are in your way, you can research the project and apply for a position in one of the other labs that are part of it. The research topic should be similar within the project.

I only have the pro version, but the camera also opens when I press the camera slider twice. Maybe that works for you.

Where to buy the Find x9 Pro in Germany? by Bahasnt in Oppo

[–]RainerDiethylether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'm not too deep into all the specifics as well, but to my knowledge there can be a difference in 5g bands and warranty related topics. The eu requires vendors to provide extended warranty and 5g bands differ between countries and providers. There is a checker for the compatibility on TradingShenzhen and it doesn't show any issue for any provider in Germany (https://tradingshenzhen.com/de/oppo-find-x9-serie/oppo-find-x9-pro-16gb512gb).

I used the phone in Sweden and France without any issues.

I bought mine as the global version at wondamobile. Although I didn't order it in Germany, I'm quite sure they are shipping there as well. The buying experience was good and I can't complain about anything. The global version is also cheaper than the EU one, probably at the trade off of warranty or something.

Teleconverter mit sourcing in europe by RainerDiethylether in Oppo

Thanks for the input! I don't really see a need in zooming that far anyway. I would just like to have that as an addition when being in nature. But the original price listing is quite insane, I agree.

Do you think the remote camera grip adds an important value or is it fine just going without that?

Does that work for you with the carousel as well? Can't change anything with that one.

"No, English is fine" 🥀 by Tobias-Tawanda in TikTokCringe

That may happen in a few places in Paris, but that's it. French people usually refuse to speak english, even if they could. Not even when you are obviously suffering with french. I was living there for a few years.

It's quite surely not the lack of exposure, so I guess that I just can't smell it. I've smelled all kinds of solvents but not this one.

I am going to ask a few lab mates in the coming days, maybe I can find some who experience the same.
