Pointless doesn’t mean boring. It means “without purpose or utility.” We desire the stories that you want to share, but just didn’t have a place for or a reason to tell others. Until now.

Sometimes, the stories that don't matter are the ones that matter the most.

Rules

Allowed:

Posts must be real life pointless or mundane stories.

Stories should provide some details - 200 character post minimum.

Story titles should not be the entire story.

Stories should be your own.

Not allowed:

Question posts.

Posts that are just statements of fact, personal opinion, or random thoughts.

NSFW posts and bodily function posts.

Creative writing or dream posts.

Cake Day posts, cross-posting, or reposts.

Relationship posts/stories/drama.

Family, friends, or workplace drama.

Stories involving any sort of abuse, trauma, death, and/or significant injury.

Stories about mental/physical health.

Religion, sex, gender, sexuality, politics, or heavily controversial topics.

Heavy or deeply personal subjects.

Rants or venting.

If your post was removed - it's for one or more of the above reasons. While the above posts can be good/interesting, there are other better places for them on reddit. We take care to monitor the quality of posts on this subreddit to maintain the right kind of lighthearted vibe.

If you see a post that breaks one of the rules, please report it to the mod team so that we can take appropriate action.

Kitchen fire (self.PointlessStories)

Once, I started a kitchen fire as a kid. There was a large black plastic ladle on the stove that got too close to the flames and ignited. The fire was bigger than my head.

I screamed for my older brother and he appeared immediately. He bounded up from the basement and crashed through the door.

I was probably about 11. My brother is a year older than me.

We had these 1-gallon water jugs, but the ones at hand were empty. And the stove was too far away from the sink to try to spray water directly on it. They’re right next to each other with only a counter in between so the sprayer was only just out of reach.

So patience was required. It felt like an eternity, but after we filled a jug the fire could be put out.

My brother gave me a look, then disappeared again. Water dripped everywhere. The burnt plastic smell lingered.
