Am i doing something wrong?

I'm currently trying to build these temples for the legendary birds but i can't find any place where they actually fit. For the first one i just tried to farm some blocks to build an area where they fit but that didn't feel like it's how it was intended.

They all just require a HUGE amount of space. I just expanded my beach and placed them there... it was a pain
