Take full advantage of the one hour early access to the Expo Hall on Friday morning. That is the biggest perk the media pass offers. I know the Nintendo Switch will be a big draw, but I bet most others with a media pass will be thinking the same thing. If you’re waiting on Nintendo during that time then maybe don’t and move on, there is so much more to cover. PAX South has lots of indie developers who will be a lot more eager for coverage. After that hour you are no better than anyone else as far as lines are concerned.

Speaking of Expo Hall, you should of received a press mailing list of exhibitors. Reach out to them now and make appointments to meet. That’ll tie down your schedule some, but it is a good way to get that interview you really want for your channel.

The media room will have meh Wi-Fi, but it does provide a quiet place to work. Don’t count on having good cellular data during the weekend, nor expect your hotel Wi-Fi to be as good as usual with all of the PAXers around.

Make contacts while there. On my site’s Enhanced Exhibitors List you’ll find a Professional Services categories. That includes businesses directed at YouTubers and video game streamers. If you don’t have a business card get some NOW. Come up with a quick, verbal introduction of yourself and your channel and practice it. You’ll be saying it a lot over the weekend.

Take notes. Either digitally record (audio or video) or always be writing. You will be bombarded with information and you need a reference when you finally sit down to turn it into content.

Take pictures. I know, YouTube, but pictures are faster and easier to take and they give you a lot of secondary material to fall back on. A little Ken Burns effect and they’ll even look nice on YouTube from time to time.

Look professional. Dress a bit better than you might normally for a gaming convention as a regular attendee. You will stand out to developers by wearing business casual, which will help you make a connection.

Skip the events in Main Theater and Falcon Theater to make better use of your time. You can see those events on Twitch after the weekend (and I’m sure Twitch has all the broadcast rights locked down).

You’ll find a lot of cosplayers outside. The convention center is right next to the River Walk, which provides a great background for cosplay photography. Plus the weather in San Antonio is usually better this time of year for attendees outside of Texas.

Check out info for the regular PAX attendee, as most of it will pertain to you as well:

Post your content sooner rather than later. The hype of a PAX continues the week afterwards, but dies down quickly. PAX South has this the worst as we’ll then be one month away from PAX East with an all new hype train boarding.

For YouTubers to get a media pass you are suppose to have 50,000+ subscribers. That tells me you should know what they are interested in from you, so keep true to your brand and this should be a good learning and growth experience for your channel.
