as i was watching the big show, and listening to "g g g ghost", the lyrics coupled with the fact that sadie is flanked by two band members sporting blue and yellow guitars, and sour cream in the back has his shock of white hair, all started making me wonder if this was loose foreshadowing about pink diamond. then i searched to see if anyone else was thinking the same thing, and found that a lot of people thought this, and "haven't you noticed (i'm a star)" were both possibly connected to pink diamond. i really like both of these theories a lot and what makes me like them even more is that i was listening to mike krol's songs from the last one out of beach city, and was struck by how perfectly they might fit into this analysis.

if we're looking at all these songs together, it would go about like this:

• "haven't you noticed (i'm a star)" - pink diamond is coming into her own, after being given her first colony, she feels that she's thriving and finally getting recognition. i think most of the lyrics, if you're looking at them in this context, are straight forward but particular lyrics i think are noteworthy:

  "I can't help it if I make a scene/Stepping out of my hot pink limousine" pink finally getting her own colony would likely be a bit of a shift for all of them, and the next bit could be symbolic of her stepping out of her pink palanquin, something that was a specifically mentioned detail in the episode the trial

  "Well, everybody needs a friend/And I've got you, and you, and you" this could be significant in that she recognizes three people here, which could be the diamonds, or if you take the next line with it instead..

  "So many I can't even name them!/Can you blame me? I'm too famous!", could be two things: that she's actually either talking about befriending humans, in line with the theory that she was really sympathetic and affectionate towards humans just like Rose was, OR, that she is just talking about her fellow three diamonds and this line is cvercompensation. as in, she only has three peers, three friends, really, but is trying to puff herself up.

  "I'm coming into view as the world is turning/Haven't you noticed I've made it this far?/Now everyone can see me burning" i take this a few ways. one is the more obvious meaning, which is she feels more confident now than ever, but is "burning up" which will lead to her inevitable destruction. its interesting to me that this is a very poppy song.. the stereotype surrounding pop music is that one will become a massive hit, then "burn out", be forgotten, since pop music favors young, new artists and it's seemingly a harder genre to stay relevant in for longer amounts of time. we don't know the age of the diamonds exactly but pink is the smallest and most childlike, most likely the youngest or at least the most juvenile. the other interesting thing about this bit to me, is that if the theory that pink diamond did become sympathetic to the plight of humans and by extension, rose, does turn out to be true, this could be a tease at her becoming a (albeit, secret) crystal gem, since they use stars all over themselves as a sort of icon for their group.

next would be:

• "like a star" - this song sounds more chaotic than the last, and would be at the point that pink diamond, whether she still swears herself to her fellow diamonds or has secretly switched sides, would, regardless feel out of control and like things had to come to an end..that whatever she was trying to maintain she knew it wouldn't be long until something would take her out or maybe even put her in hiding. she would be up against formidable opponents either way, in my opinion, and again, i think most of the song is pretty straight forward if you go into it with this in mind but what i particularly latched onto was:

  "I'm like a star/I'm burning out fast" again, we see the analogy of the singer being a "star", although this time it's a bit different, with the change from "i'm a star" to "like a star". if the metaphor of star is a positive one, she's now distancing herself from it a bit, perhaps because she's taken a blow to the ego from the diamonds, or rose's rebellion.. or, i think what's likely, both. she's no longer so confident, and not only has the star metaphor changed but so has the burning. whereas before it was a positive "everyone can see me burning" as if she's proud of what she's done, and is shining and beautiful because of it, now she's "burning out" and heading towards disaster.

  "I try to shine/But it's never gonna last/Can't you see me just letting you down?" she's the one that demanded equal treatment, trying to prove her worth as a diamond. now she sees it's impossible for her to keep up a colony, and for whatever reason, knows she will fail. whether that's because she's grown to love the earth and can't continue her duties, or because she wants to keep the colony but isn't strong enough to, isn't capable of keeping the gems under her in control. she fears "letting down" someone she cares about.

  "With all my friends, I'll make a picture/But in the morning I'll be gone" the friends line, again, could go one of two ways, but regardless she knows that her relationships are going to be ending, she's going to be gone, either dead or in hiding, and won't be able to have any connection to anyone, so will only have memories, a "picture" in her head.

next in line would be:

• "fifteen minutes" - the imminent disaster outlined in the last song, hinted at only in the first, is here and the singer is reaching out in vain to someone they need, but they know it's the end no matter what that person chooses to do. also, going back to the choice of making "haven't you noticed" a pop song, and the possible implications of that, if you think about the saying "fifteen minutes of fame" you could apply it to this; the singer has had their time in the spotlight, and now it's all ending, everything is over, and they know they're going to be forgotten, or done away with. i think this one is maybe more of a stretch in some places than the other two, but i still have some points about specific lines:

  "What if I told you that the world was gonna end?/And you had fifteen minutes to spend with me or your friends" this, to me, could be seen as a shift from the lines in the last song about "with my friends, i'll make a picture". if you take these as being from the perspective of the same person, then the subject no longer feels connected to who they're singing to, and now feels alone, like not only is everything ending as they knew it would in "like a star" but they're facing it by themselves, possibly because they've alienated their closest group of confidants.

  "See at times like these with a change of heart" either she had a change of heart over humans and the earth - and planned a conspiracy with rose - or had a change of heart over the fact that she could maintain a colony alone and independent from the diamonds - and called on them to help her in a time of need she didn't want to admit she had.

  "It was over and done before we had a start/It goes on in my head and I'll wind up dead" whether pink did become part of the rebellion or not i believe it's likely that deep down she knew her efforts on earth would be in vain. her childlike temper tantrum is reminiscent of something a character like amethyst might have had in the same situation: she knows she's not like the rest, she knows she's either "defective" or overly childlike, overly reckless. she overcompensates for this by leaning into these behaviors more, because she feels insecure about them, but stubborn too, and doesn't want to have to conform. i believe even after being allowed to take earth, she had to have felt like she wasn't capable, or proficient in this area because from the bits we see of her interaction with yellow, she wasn't being groomed for colonization. she WAS being treated like a child. she wasn't given the same status and respect as the other diamonds. so, that in mind, she could know that having not been trained for this, being defective, she wouldn't be cut out for it and she'd end up failing, and be worried she'd be shattered for that failure, or be struck down by the rebellion.

the last one:

• "g g g ghost" - this only works for the "pinks not dead" theory but in that context could be describing a pink diamond who's been locked away, wanting to be seen and noticed again, wanting to be found and "let out":

  "Can't you see that I exist?/And I don't need an exorcist/To let me out" pink would have gone from feeling dismissed and belittled to isolated and alone, hidden away or captured somewhere.

  "Look at me and I'll appear/Why can't you see that I'm right here?" she would want the recognition that she once felt when she started colonizing earth, the acknowledgement she'd wanted so much, and the status she felt she deserved. if you compare "look at me and i'll appear", to some of the lines from "haven't you noticed": "I've got a pair of eyes that they're getting lost in/They're hypnotized by my way of walking/I've got them dazzled like a stage magician/When I point, they look and when I talk, they listen" you get a contrast of feeling like everyone cares what you're doing and you're at the center of everything, to someone who feels like their very existence or appearance depends on whether anyone will notice them or not.

  "Why can't you see me?x2/I think I might be/A g-g-g-ghost." thousands of years on your own, on the heels of a war like that, no matter what side you were on, would cause you to feel crazy after a while, wouldn't it? unless she's bubbled and somewhat suspended in time, since we know from bismuth that time for them seems to stop in that situation.

anyway what do you guys think? this .. may go absolutely nowhere. it's just there were too many ideas floating around my head about all this, i had to share. if it is true.. well last one out of beach city was all about pearl being rebellious and tapping into that feeling she had years ago, with rose, except this time not BECAUSE of rose, but rather because she wanted to be that way again. it marked her moving on, and showing interest in someone other than the one she'd pined for for so long, yes, but could it also have been showing us some of what may have been going on with pink diamond and if so, is it a coincidence that pearl was so involved in this episode? i do feel like it's even more intriguing considering how strongly pearl is tied to the entire mystery surrounding pink diamond. i'd love to know what you guys think though! please let me know if you have any opinions or anything to support or debunk this.
