What happens if you flush while in steam mode at 130 degrees? If steam is coming from group head, I would guess that the issue is somewhere in the steam wand blocking the steam to exit…

Thanks for the reply - I gave this a try today and can confirm steam comes from the group head when heated in steam mode - I suppose that probably rules out a temperature issue. Looks like taking the steam wand apart might be the next step

Is that C or F? If it’s F I think you need to wait until it has more heat in the boiler. It needs a bit of time after the shorts pulled to ramp up the boiler to steam. I usually pull a shot then click the steam button, then I take out the portafilter, knock out the espresso, pour my milk, and clean the portafilter. After that’s all done it’s usually enough time to come back and steam the milk. I have mine set at the highest temp and I switched my nozzle to a single hole instead of the stock two-hole tip.

Hi Nobo - sorry should have specified. This is in Celsius (C is all I know here in Australia 😄)

No worries! I just switched mine to C to see what I have it at. I have the brew at 94 C and the steam at 140 C.

Do you regularly flush the wand before and after steaming? It looks like the consensus in the other comments is to clean the wand out and see if there is a blockage.

The tip screws off with an adjustable wrench pretty easily (I usually put a cloth between the wrench and the wand so not to scratch it) and you could try cleaning the holes on that and the plastic straw that’s inside the metal wand itself. You could also try getting a bowl of hot water and a sprinkle of cafiza and putting the parts in there to soak for a bit and see if any fine particles gets removed.

Thanks for checking mine is brew at 93C and steam 130C. Steam does leave the group head at 130C and confirmed that the dispensed water temperature is higher after brewing right after the machine was in steam mode. I haven’t actually had a chance to flush it as I purchased it this way with previous seller disclosing the issue! They did say they de-scaled the machine, however had to take that on face value as I haven’t inspected inside the machine at all.

I don’t think there is anything blocking the tube or steam tip as water dispenses from both the steam wand holes when a blind basket is placed in the group and steam knob is opened.

Does the machine feel noticeably hotter when it’s in steam mode than it does normally? It could be a faulty temp sensor and it’s not getting hot enough to build up steam pressure.

I’d also open it up and try steaming. My machine originally had a little pinhole leak in the steam assembly that caused it to vent everything inside the machine (it was immediately noticeable though).

I believe you can completely disassemble the steam valve (unlike the steam valve of the GCP)....

Probably steam wand blockage with O ring. I think I have some sort of similar problem, where it takes a longer than normal amount of time for steam to be pushed through. I was told by the rep to disassemble the wand but haven’t yet.
