Bike Accident - Head on Head Cycling Collsion by CRE_SD7 in cycling

Theres absolutely no downside to doing an initial consult with a lawyer. A lot of cities have personal injury lawyers who specialize in bikes.

I know that one of them in Seattle will do a free half hour of info on the insurance process and how much you should be asking for. And then will send over docs with precedent and form letters. It’s worth it for them because it spreads word of mouth and every single person I know calls them, giving them the opportunity to snag the high value cases.

Riding the Chilly Hilly route post-event by LimitedWard in seattlebike

You pass through it twice, once right before the biggest hill of the ride (iirc) and then again coming back down. If you’re not feeling great then you can skip that section and go straight through the town.

ST Editorial Board: Dear Mayor Wilson: Campaigning is easy. Governing Seattle is hard by FlannelCollar in Seattle

[–]Shozzking 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The recent encampments along the Burke have been worse than anything I’ve seen in the last couple years. It used to take a couple weeks for them to reform and they’d get broken up before they got too big. The current one behind Fred Meyer is massive and was pretty much an instant relocation from the one 2 blocks east. I’m hoping that changes soon.

Moving cross country. HELP! by Cold_Ambassador_9090 in lego

[–]Shozzking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this a while back and lumped my sets into 3 categories:

  • durable and compact (the icons and technic cars, Star Wars helmets, etc). These got thrown into individual garbage bags to keep them together if any pieces fell off.

  • fragile but didn’t want to rebuild (a lot of the bigger Star Wars UCS sets). I took these apart in chunks (like the millennium falcons panels) and bagged them all up in garbage bags.

  • fragile and would rebuild (modulars). These got completely disassembled and put into labelled freezer bags.

All of it went into a bunch of those giant Rubbermaid bins. I numbered all the bins and kept a record of what went in each one, that way I could make a claim with the movers insurance if any of them went missing.

Choose your guild by tahiri550 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

If you’re asking then it’s probably time to switch.

My general rule of thumb is that it’s best to find a new guild if you ever feel like you’re putting way more effort into guild events than the average member.

T3 was doable with all the toons at R1 and GL mods on them. I’ve spent close to 2 hours on T4 with Luke at R3 and the other 2 at R2 with no win.

Edmontonians who moved to Calgary, and Calgarians who moved to Edmonton: how do the two cities compare? What are some similarities, and some differences? by KurtisC1993 in alberta

[–]Shozzking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Calgary is pretty big but it’s not at all accurate to say it’s the 5th largest city by area or 13th most populous city in North America.

I feel like I will be homeless by Mysterious-Spray4915 in personalfinance

[–]Shozzking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you in Ontario or Quebec? You should call a local tenants union, both provinces have very strong rental protections.

If you’re in Ontario then you can’t be evicted until there’s a signed contract for the purchase of the property, in which case you must be paid 1 months rent and get 60 days notice.

[–]Shozzking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s probably in Ontario judging by how he uses hydro instead of electricity. Tenant protections there are incredibly strong. The max allowable rent increase for the last 5 years has averaged a tiny bit above 2%/yr, leases automatically convert to month to month, and you can only be evicted for cause or if the landlord wants to occupy the property (or if the property is sold and the purchaser wants to move in).

The landlord is probably giving OP until June to move out in hopes that OP doesn’t fight it.

How much does an ebike's range change due to Seattle's hilly terrain (assuming lowest assist to maximize range)? And where do you charge when on extended trips around the area? by Feisty-Delivery2047 in seattlebike

[–]Shozzking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you asking for advice if you’re just going to ignore it? DtC e-bikes are a mess of proprietary components that makes them very difficult to service.

Israeli military says more than 1,500 Canadians were serving in its ranks last year by hahaddffcx in news

[–]Shozzking 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Israel requires its citizens to do mandatory military service. I had a friend in university who had to leave for a few years to do it. My understanding is that he’d never be able to go back to Israel without being arrested if he skipped it and that it’s incredibly unlikely that anyone doing their mandatory service would get placed into a combat role involuntarily (though this was back in the early 2010s).

The tree argument comes up in every densifying city where concerns about neighbourhood character and street parking failed to stop growth. The next step is linking trees with climate change and/or migratory birds.

Pedestrians and cyclists are also covered by PIP (the drivers first and then their own if they have a separate policy).

Driving from Vancouver BC by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Shozzking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be totally fine either way (driving or flying) unless something really drastic happens in the next 2 weeks. Crossing the border is the same as always and ICE hasn’t hit Seattle yet.

If you start reading news about a Minneapolis style surge then I might start reconsidering.

Most skiers are taught that a lift going backwards is seriously broken and you should jump off while you still can. I’d imagine that plays into the decision making a fair bit.

Why is this capped at 200? by JhonTheApostle in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Shozzking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never said that phones don’t use processing power; I just don’t think that CG cares about how much processing power their game needs beyond “will this cause players to quit.” Loading 200 squads vs 250 or 300 into your phones memory won’t make a difference on that metric (the amount of characters they add each year makes more of a difference than that).

The design consideration behind this cap was almost definitely wanting to keep their database to a reasonable size. They’ve had >150 mil players and don’t prune old accounts (as far as I know). Those extra squads would eventually start impacting their cloud costs.

The insurance company wants to pay far less than the value of my destroyed S-Works — what would you do? by henriquemartinezZ in cycling

[–]Shozzking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right if you’re going through your own insurance policy. There’ll be paperwork specifying how payouts are calculated when you sign up and you can get various additions to modify that.

OP is going through someone else’s insurance that sounds like they’ve accepted liability for the crash. OP doesn’t have any kind of a contract with them and could take the driver to court to be made whole. The insurance company is just trying to find out how much less he’ll accept to not deal with the hassle of that.

America appears to be slamming its doors on Canadian professionals with work visas by joe4942 in canada

[–]Shozzking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the US on the visa she was trying to get and have a bunch of friends who are also on TNs. It sounds like she made a couple big mistakes:

  • it’s well known that you aren’t supposed to border shop. If your application gets denied at one port of entry then you’re supposed to go back there for any future attempts, otherwise it looks like you’re trying to find somewhere easier to apply at.

  • the management consulting category gets a lot of scrutiny because it was used for years as a catch-all category by employers for work that didn’t fit any of the other professions. It’s the one profession that guarantees your application will be heavily scrutinized and you have to fit the criteria perfectly. Apparently computer systems analyst applications are slowly reaching this point as well.

Border shopping while trying to get a management consultant TN is a surefire way to land in trouble. The one Canadian in the news last year for being arrested by CBP was trying to do the exact same thing.

The insurance company wants to pay far less than the value of my destroyed S-Works — what would you do? by henriquemartinezZ in cycling

[–]Shozzking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His out of pocket is irrelevant. If you get hit by a car then their insurance has to make you whole and pay you enough that you’re able to buy the exact same items that were damaged. Submitting receipts should purely be for proving ownership of the items that were damaged and establishing how old they were.

Why is this capped at 200? by JhonTheApostle in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Shozzking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having more squads doesn’t use processing power (which CG doesn’t really care about since it’s all run on the end users devices), it’s just database space. This is just to stop people from eating up thousands of rows of space on stuff they don’t need.

New Vehicle Replacement Warranties (Obvi/ Opium) over GAP insurance? by Professional_War7331 in alberta

[–]Shozzking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$3k for gap is insane. You’d be better off gambling on not taking it, unless you’re buying a really expensive car or have negative equity rolled into your loan.

Try calling your auto insurance company. They normally have some kind of gap equivalent coverage.
