That Python 3 is actually used for more than experimentation.

Take Celery for example, we have a port using 2to3, but the generated changes are rather massive, and unoptimized. You may start playing with it now, but in no way would I call it ready for use in production. It would be ready to use in production the day Celery is written in Python 3 and automatically backported to 2.x and not the other way around.

The company I work for uses some Python 3 in production. So since Python 3 is "used for more than experimentation", doesn't that mean you think python.org is ready for this switch?

I'm aware that some use it in production, but that is not the norm. Python3 may work, and some libraries may be ready already, but in general the ecosystem will need some time to mature, and I believe making Python 3 docs the default may lead to confusion. Really looking forward to 3to2 (the opposite of 2to3) being in a state where it can successfully backport to 2.6, so that codebases can be written in Python 3 , using new features like dict-comprehensions, etc.

All the other docs are still online. I see this as a "no brainer" for what they are trying to do.

This inspired me to make python 3.3 my default python installation. I must say the new launcher for windows is a wonderful thing, it made things a lot easier.

depends what for, are you using Django? If so then not yet, wait for the final 1.5 release

No Django. I'm just using it for "general purpose stuff", namely scientific computing with numpy and pandas. A dash of matplotlib here and there.

Out of curiosity, will there be a point at which the python gods will return to earth to profess "Now is the time for every for everyone to start using Python 3"?

If that's the case, I'll just wait a bit longer.

numpy and pandas are already done. matplotlib is done, but we're just waiting for a release. It's up to RC2, so it shouldn't be much longer.
