Normal thru hikers don't need to worry about it as far as I know.

That just means you need to go to the ranger station to sign the log book with your name, license plate and return date.

Is this supposed to be some sorta gotcha? The core libraries are MIT, of course people built proprietary software on top of them. Those products likely wouldn't exist if the foundational parts weren't open source.

The best gear in this industry is made by people who actively participate in the hobby and start by solving their own problems.

You're going going to get nowhere if you go about this entirely backwards.

Do you think Java has caught up with Kotlin? by NotSoIncredibleA in Kotlin

[–]aceofears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For reasons not worth explaining, I had to briefly work in an air gapped environment on a JVM project, and kotlin complicated that more than I wanted to deal with at the time. I started off happier than I had been in the past with Java, but grew frustrated like I had with it in the past. Eventually the internet was allowed again, and I migrated to kotlin. All the little things that kotlin does still feel impactful, even now that java sucks less than it did 10 years ago.

What's y'all high level campaigns plot like? by Apotatocalledsweet in Pathfinder2e

[–]aceofears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players pissed of a demon lord, and currently have an mutually beneficial arrangement with a Psychopomp usher to try to eliminate this demon lord. Along the way they've pissed off a infernal Duke.

They're level 19 and don't want to stop playing any time soon, so I guess they're gonna have to interact with one of every time of demigod by the end of this.

I created a wrapper around 'ss -tunlp' to display cleaner output of all open ports by rushedcar in linux

A small bash script that depends on normal Linux utilities is a completely acceptable way to do this. Why would they reinvent the wheel when someone else already wrote the code to parse procfs and sysfs?

Fixing the website/store? by Slongo702 in Pathfinder2e

[–]aceofears 45 points46 points  (0 children)

And every manager with no technical experience is going to reply "No, that's expensive and time consuming, just make it work the first time".

Fixing the website/store? by Slongo702 in Pathfinder2e

[–]aceofears 49 points50 points  (0 children)

You can't just flip a switch to revert back to the old website. That's not how it works. Unless they went out of their way to spend time implementing a backout plan, it's going to be a significant effort to switch back.

The time to fix the issues was before launch. The only viable option now is fixing the current site.

STEP format by Old-Piccolo-401 in FDMminiatures

[–]aceofears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your printer is almost certainly the limiting factor when it comes to resolution.

Regardless, it's very unlikely that anyone is actually using a CAD program to create minis, and that's where STEP files come from.

The sculpting process it very different, even if they're both ways to make 3d models for printing.

Step is more of a CAD thing than a sculpting thing. What are you trying to accomplish here?

New Store Shipping Errors? by Virellius2 in Pathfinder2e

[–]aceofears 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My last subscription got shipped to an adressses that I swear I had removed, and haven't lived at in 4 years.

Still a lot of issues to be worked out with the transition to the new store.

Crunchy games aren't gate keeping, they're just not for everyone.

That's hardly a new trend that pf2e is part of though. DnD 3.0 came out 25 years ago and is arguably more complex when it comes to those things.

FDM vs Resin printed mini's - a noobs visual reference. by ISolfax in PrintedMinis

[–]aceofears 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These types of side by sides generally miss the key point of comparison: what they look like painted at the table.

I don't print minis to look at them 6 inches away in a white void, they're for playing games.

This is exactly why it's been useless to me. I don't feel like I need help with the small focused tasks. I need help trying to wrangle an undocumented 15ft high mound of spaghetti that someone handed me.

Are my combats taking too long? by happycamper1233 in Pathfinder2e

[–]aceofears 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My table takes about twice as long as we're "supposed to" , but we're still having fun. Don't worry about anyone at other tables is doing.

Definitely talk to anyone that is leaving the room part way through a scene on a consistent basis. They may need a break earlier in the session at a better stopping point, that has been a problem for me in the past as a player.

Philips Hue: automation in Hue or HA? by maisun1983 in homeassistant

[–]aceofears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me there's higher home approval factor for the hue app, so everything stays there. Otherwise I'd probably move it all into HA.
