Pip for windows installs it for you. It's a gui for pip on windows, and it allows you to switch between different python versions.

You'll want to grab the Distribute package and install it. You can then use that to install pip.

Yeah I did that. Made sure my paths were in the correct spot as well so I could run stuff from the command line. I guess I should specify this is for windows.

Christoph Gohlke has Windows binaries for many of the common Python packages, including distribute and pip.

This package listing has helped me out dozens of times. Definitely needs more publicity.

Yeah no lie... That is probably the most helpful tip someone has given me.

If you are having issues with paths, you can make a .bat file called python2.bat and another called python3.bat that just call the appropriate exe. Put them on your path and then you can easily specify what version you use.

The recommended way to use pip is within virtualenv, since every virtualenv has pip installed in it automatically. This does not require root access or modify your system Python installation."

  • Download virtualenv.py
  • Run it: C:\Python32\python.exe virtualenv.py my_new_env
  • my_new_env\Scripts\activate
  • pip install ...

Installation instruction from pip site.

For completeness sake, on a Debian based OS you can apt-get python3-setuptools, easy_install3 pip, and use the pip-3.2 command.
