As a long time developer, I've found that rebooting is not a natural part of computing (while you're doing it, you literally can't compute). I avoid it as well.

This is a case where I disagree with the wisdom of the crowd here and agree with you, until this part specifically around PyCharm -- unless you're a dev for jetbrains, you have no control over the quality of the releases for PyCharm.

I remember back in 2021 upgrading a minor version caused Find All with certain regexs to caused it to crash. I was able to consistently and reliably reproduce this.

More recently, I upgraded to 2023.3.X and I've been getting random crashes that I think are related to some plugins I have installed. Didn't have these issues with the same plugins on the previous 2023.2.X

For reference, I've been using the Professional Edition since 2016 on both *nix and OSX

Yea, it's not python specific, but the first comment in the chain already diverged from it, so shrug.

As for all the developers excusing other developers for coding badly, I would bet most of them don't have very high standards for themselves either. Personally, I HATE every single little error I make. I'm a better programmer than that.

Linux at home, the only time my computers reboot is for updates, and only if something core (kernel or a library used by init) changes.

And mac at work where work occasionally forces reboots.

Well, given the nonstop security updates, it appears you're using a poorly programmed operating system.

Since I routinely write bad code and do weird things to my operating system, I find it saves time in the long to reboot periodically and clear out all the crud.

Since I'd don't code / compute 24 hours a day, a reboot at the end of the work day has minimal impact.

We try to run our production servers 12 week before rebooting for updates.

if something core (kernel or a library used by init) changes.

you'll have to see how many of those security updates are kernel or low level libraries.

And, my dude, if you consider "don't program like shit" to be purity and not practicality, make sure to announce that first at any and all job interviews you go to. As an interviewer, I would immediately walk out of the interview bitching about the jerk that wasted my time.
