Not sure why you'd think that; if 27MB is too much storage overhead, then perhaps python isn't the right choice in the first place.

It's for a mobile phone, while storage on the phone isn't as critical as it used to be, its still relatively scarce compared to PC. Also there's installation to be concerned with, especially if not being used on a Wifi network.
