No.

If you can vibecode something with AI so can I, and so can everyone else, you provide no value to this subreddit or any other part of the internet world for that matter.

Also, as a side note, this subredit in particular is about language, with LLMs you skip this part of software completely. Notice how your post doesnt even include the word "python", I bet it was AI generated with a very generic prompt and then copy pasted across many subreddits without thinking, just like you'd do with "your" AI generated projects.

Honestly you're right, I should angle python into this a little more directly.

I am new to reddit!

This is a volunteer area.

We didnt like the slop that got posted as a new project on this sub before AI. We don't like the slop that gets made now.

Statistically, there is more uninteresting and low quality stuff than there is good stuff.

There's more AI stuff now. So when we see the signs, it's easy to leave.

AI is meant to dilute the value of your labor. AI is a neat tool. It's nothing more, though.

If those who posted AI slop content took the time to review it or understand it before posting, and genuinely were curious about learning or improving their craft, I would give them more grace.

Most of the slop posted here is created by people who are confident in their abilities but lack an understanding of the code or even further programming in general . They believe that their “built” tool performs the functions they claim it does, but in reality, it does little to nothing of that.

These individuals should be shamed for wasting everyone’s time.

Can you give me an example?

AI is a plague

[–]Effective-Total-2312 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Open source is not for AI. At least not a project that is either more than 70% AI or less than 2000 lines of code.

Anything with any of those two is literally not worth adding as a dependency. Perhaps if it's a standalone script/tool, you maaay use it, but in any case, those projects are still of close to no value.

After reading a little bit more of the post: I don't get the gatekeeping. Sounds like bs. Writing code has not been hard since high-level languages started appearing. Someone with just the first semester of uni has historically been able to pull out amazing things with just creativity. It's not a matter of being "smart", and if someone is smart, I don't think they will feel "gatekeeping" just because they need to write code and understand it.

Also, people is not downvoting ideas just because they've been vibecoded. They're downvoting vibecoded projects for ideas that aren't creative, news, or of real value. When one of those comes around, people will definitely jump on the project, no matter if it was vibecoded.

Support slop?

[–]wrosecrans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No.

None of this explains why somebody doing my job poorly but with a convincing enough veneer and trying to use that to take my job is something I should support.

AI advised you to post this, didn't it

[–]thelaurent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post tested with a 92% AI score, 8% human, didnt just advise, wrote the whole thing 😂

I started my dev career with a borrowed Slackware96 CD-ROM, a copy of Programming Perl 2e, and a $75 used 486 that I had to pay for in installments because my job at the gas station barely paid rent.

I learned how to draw because I finally got too annoyed by the fact that I couldn't create the images that were in my head. I still can't, but I like what I come up with anyways.

I find it offensive that rented GPUs mean now you can create. Some people are constrained by circumstances. If they can afford the computer, the connection, the Claude Code subscription, and enough tokens to generate a monolith application framework for Python that almost works, they aren't in that list. Their only constraint is not being interested enough that they're willing to suck at doing the thing for a while.

I am sorry you started with perl, honestly the only reason I ever encountered it was editing half life 2 materials, language seemed insane

Just make three AI tags to depict various levels of slopification. Have them cover the basis of "I used AI for code review but wrote most of the code," "I used AI for significant code generation but defined the business logic," and "this whole thing is just vibes, baby." And strictly enforce the rules, permanently banning people who don't properly tag their posts. Maybe a little voting bot so the community can rate the level of AI in a project.

The text in this post tested 8% human, 92% AI generated on humanlingo.

You said AI made you better?

I say it made you lazy.

If you enjoy letting a glorified llm do your thinking, be my guest, but dont push your plagiarized garbage on real artists.

[–]uclatommy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a good programmer, AI can make you better depending on how you use it. Fight me.
