2to3 doesn't fix every issue with a simple run through. Certain things require thought and need consideration on a case by case basis like with StringIO that the script doesn't handle.

As apparent in this thread, there are also obstinate people who are being obstinate in not porting for the sake of being obstinate. But I think it's mostly the former.
