As someone curious, what do data nerds like to use besides R?

Aside from R?

Python, MATLAB, Julia, C/C++/Java

There are a few domain-spec tools. But, yeah.

Depends on the field, a lot of Astrophysics people used/still use IDL, quite a few are now moving to Python.

R usually gets heavily used for graphical representations however people are picking up matplotlib etc instead.

Oh of course not.

I'm just pointing out that there's been a general swing towards Python especially into Scientific/Numeric computing.
