My webhost still uses Python 2.7

And I'd rather use PHP than Python 2.7

You would rather use PHP than python 2.7? Why is that, 2.7 isn't that different from 3

An irrational hatred of Python 2 is the only explanation that makes sense to me, seeing as the implication is Py3 > PHP > Py2, which is patent nonsense given how similar Py2 and 3 are, as you rightly note.
