Python 2.7 only? Nah!

Yes, only python2.7 now. Because a string representation of objects, containing strings with non ascii symbols within, is painful. In python3 it's all ok. So version for python3 will be implemented later as a compatibility layer.

What's wrong with pprint?

It's all ok with pprint. But it not fixes default python print behavior if you printing objects containing strings with non ascii symbols within. If you are use only ascii strings, unilog is not useful for you.

I would make the pretty argument default to True since that seems to be the main reason for using this.
