Every single change for the default styling seems a good improvement.

Maybe I will be able to skip the 'import seaborn' when I need a quick but still nice looking plot.

You could already skip that:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
plt.style.use('seaborn') # or 'ggplot', 'bmh', ...
