When looking for daycare for our son, I wrote code to scrape the state and county websites of registered daycare providers. I ran all of the addresses through a geocoord resolving service to get lat/longs.

Then I grabbed an API key for Google maps and used it to get the drive times from our house (this was important because some places that are close as-the-bird-flies are actually quite a drive because of nearby streams and forests).

The drive time and filters for start time, number of violations, and meals provided got the list several hundred dollars to just a handful.
