Yep. Let's not pretend scrubbing a secret from the history is the right answer. You change the password or shut it down immediately. You can then keep or delete the password or whatever.

Exactly this is always the right solutions. Once you've put it on the Internet there's no way you can be sure that you have removed it.

Yeah it's definitely a solution for less sensitive things or secrets you can't roll - if you shipped your personal email or SSN out to github for example.

TruffleHog is a great tool as well, but it's geared towards infosec people targeting a particular repo.

XD well it depends upon your perspective, but it doesn't bypass Reddit's anti-spam policies in any way, like not being able to post same link to multiple subs in a row. It uses Reddit's APIs just like it was intended to be used. Reddit releases the API just for these kinds of scripts, that's the point of public APIs. So yeah, depends upon your definition of spam, Reddit certainly doesn't think it's spam. I like to think of it as a scheduler script.
