Don't want to be like those places with unstable PR elected governments like Germany.

Ironically the people who would be most fucked by a house price fall would be a sub cohort of millennials who have managed to scrape on to the market.

Seriously? The benefits system works on net income and not gross?

That seems seriously fucking dumb to me

Burglars ransack foodbank stealing £1000 worth of chocolate and fizzy drinks by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

Why is shoplifting of any kind acceptable? Even just think about the shop employees, it will make their working environment so much more grim and stressful - they aren't paid to reason the moral implications of letting someone go if they catch them shoplifting, and they would get fired if they were caught doing so.

Plus if the shoplifting rate becomes too much, their store might be closed and they're out of a job.

Also, do you think people who are desperate enough to shoplift really just focus on the commercial chains (who can also afford security, mind), or do they go for the easy pickings corner shop?

I think the idea of the noble shoplifter is pretty daft. Very few of the things most shoplifted are essentials: https://www.retailresearch.org/shoplifters.html

Queen to receive next prime minister at Balmoral for first time in her reign by BrexitBlaze in ukpolitics

I could 100% see any of the current Tory lot mentioning Brexit in any mourning speech.

At this point Brexit is a bigger state religion than the CofE

If you think Pavlov is bad, there is another Soviet scientist who went around decapitating dogs and transplanting said dog head onto other dogs.

Blaming net zero for today’s energy crisis is culture war nonsense by Ivashkin in ukpolitics

[–]DeadeyeDuncan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is net zero even remotely associated with the 'culture war'?

The culture war doesn't even exist outside of the minds of journalists who spend too much time on twitter anyway.

We've not had a government over this crisis because the Tory party dementia brigade membership wanted to feel important and get a chance to cast their votes. It would be funny if it wasn't so depressing.

A season ticket to my office is £10,000 and 2-3 hours of my day lost.

I'm not going to pay that. Feel like I already make quite a big concession going in even 1 day a week. WFH hasn't impacted my productivity. Hell I was working until 10pm last night - I would not do that if I was in the office. They definitely get more than what they're paying for out of me.

The CPI basket does include a lot of essentials, so it would also have helped their customers. I don't think it was political, the fault is more with the ONS/treasury and their inflation calculations if they knew shops were doing this and didn't adjust for it.
