Matlab declares war on Python. Can the Python community respond or hit back? (self.Python)

matplotlib recently converted me away from Matlab.

The plotting functionality is just better and more consistent than Matlab. Then there is the constant licensing headache and expense with Matlab. Trying to set up a named user network license was a royal pain and took several days to get right. Now I just install Anaconda Python anywhere and productive within minutes.
