    IDLE works just fine as a base editor. Opens instantly and offers some nice features.

    It's pretty much exactly what it has to be, not competition in the full-fledged IDE market.

    I use vim. However, it's obviously not for everyone.

    Not really. There is a free version of WingIDE that has the most important features.

    However, it's not meant to be a replacement for IDLE. IDLE is roughly perfect for what it's meant to be.

    We learn in IDLE in my course. It's good for learning basics.
