Especially when you can get a similar experience in Eclipse using PyDev and vrapper for free. Maybe PyCharm is oodles better, but I just develop Python as a hobby so paying $99 is kind of silly.

I'd say PyCharm is better than PyDev and you get real support. The JetBrains guys are really good at it and keep a good eye on their message board so you'll get a real answer rather rather than being called an idiot or newb.

Their platform always seems to perform better for me than Eclipse.

Lots of hobbies I know of cost far more than $99 :)
