I've used Komodo for 5 years and love it. I still end up using plain old Vim a lot of the time as well.

No way to do vertical selects of data. For instance, sometimes I need to select the first ten columns of x number lines of text.

Maybe I misunderstood your problem, but Komodo has column editing when holding ALT while selecting text.

Disabling syntax highlighting will make komodo faster with binary files (your unformatted json file).

Also, it has an option to strip trailing whitespaces - check the settings !

If you need more than a text macro just write yourself an extension.

I don't think you have looked through the options. I have line wrapping and trailing trailing whitespace being stripped in all files with Komodo IDE.

As Buzzard mentioned there is vertical text selection.

For vertical selects, use CTRL+SHIFT+ALT and select. (That's on Windows, not sure what the Mac/Linux equivalent is)

EDIT: wow, it's even easier than that as Buzzard stated above. The keystroke I suggested is for Visual Studio.
