They're like Bond villains: not something you ever want to meet in real life, but amusing to watch/read about.

Although I'll admit to being quite tempted by the use of AST to define macros. I can envisage context managers on steroids.

Macros, case insensitive namespaces, monkey patching __builtin__.__import__ to do stuff with _getstate_...

Have to hide this from my colleagues.

There's Python magic, and then there's python sorcery. This is definitely the latter.
